RORC Spring Series Round Up
Results from the RORC Spring Series are just published and its Gentoo (James Harayda/ Dee Caffari) that take the overall win in the narrowest of margins from Aries (Stuart Childerley/ Kelvin Rawlings) . Bellino (Deb Fish / Rob Craigie) was 3rd.
Going into the final race of the series Aries and Gentoo were neck and neck on points. Gentoo managed to finish the race just 1 second ahead of Aries to clinch the series.
The final race was in very light airs somewhat favouring the smaller boats. On the last leg the leading pack were stalled as close as 0.3NM from finish buoy with the new tide cruelly sweeping them backwards. Meanwhile the rest of the fleet were sailing in neutral tide with the sea breeze filling from the south west.
Winner of the final Race was Duff Lite following by Jazzy Jellyfish. From our series Cora (Tim Goodhew/ Kelvin Matthews) was the leading boat in 3rd place followed in 4th by the freshly launched Mzungu (Tony and Sam White) in its first race of the season. In another 1 second split Just So (William McGough/ Christian Jeffery) was 5th.
The race was not without incidents. In order to avoid the worst of the tide on the first leg boats were choosing to go very close into the island shore at Egypt point and inside Bembridge ledge. There are reports of as many as 7 boats hitting the rocks and a few lift outs and keel repairs needed before the first race of the series on May 1st.
Well done to all the boats that took part, it was a tough race in light airs.
